AVALANCHE ALLEY

About Snowslip Avalanche Safety and Avalanche Alley
2/29/2024, Shed 7 West Starting Zone.
Hello,
Thank you for visiting the Avalanche Alley website. This website is provided by Snowslip LLC and encompasses electronic information and database products associated with the BNSF Avalanche Safety Program (Program).

The Program has been in place since 2005 and currently consists of a contractual partnership between Snowslip and BNSF Railway. Through this partnership, Snowslip forecasters assist the Railway with avalanche-safety related products and services.

The idea of the Avalanche Alley began in 2010 with two main objectives… First, to create a source of Program-related avalanche safety information available to the public. Second, was to create an online resource that provided a user-interactive map of the Program’s terrain along with a user-defined database that consisted of text and photos.

Now, over a decade later, Avalanche Alley has a lengthy historical dataset related to Program area avalanche activity, snowpack information, and weather conditions. Field observations, annual study plot data, and seasonal condition summary reports are also available on the website. Frankly, our biggest problem is keeping up with data entry, so please bear with us if you’re anxiously awaiting our next entry!

We’d love to hear from you.
